Step

STEP PROGRAM SUMMARY

Step is a cardio workout that can help both new and experienced fitness enthusiasts burn lots of calories in a short amount of time. At Extreme Fitness, it is a fantastic, free-style fun program that is suitable for all levels. Feel free to join one of our first-rate, certified instructors for this challenging, choreographed cardiovascular workout.

The “step" itself is a raised platform. Risers are placed on each side of the step, to make it higher or lower.  Step routines often include turning from side to side, going over the step, stepping off the end of the step, doing knee lifts and more. As a beginner you can start with a relatively low step, but as you build strength, endurance and technique you can increase the height of the step for extra intensity.

Taking part in a step fitness class is a progressive learning experience. Once you’ve learned to execute the basic steps you’ll have the building blocks for learning more detailed movements. You’ll also be able to participate in classes of varying degrees of difficulty. The more challenging movements are merely variations of the basic steps, so in a single class, both beginners and experienced steppers can both achieve a substantial cardio workout.

HOW STEP WILL BENEFIT YOU
Step classes are definitely a cardiovascular workout. In addition to the side to side movement, you also move up and down, constantly changing levels, which makes additional demands on your heart. This makes stepping a quick way to increase your cardiovascular threshold.

Participating in Step class may also improve your body awareness as you maneuver yourself up, over and around the step. Improving one’s physical coordination while stepping has benefits that translate into other activities including non-exercise related movement. Being light on your feet is a positive attribute whether carrying heavy loads, walking on an uneven surface, or even moving delicately through a tight space.

And of course, being able to conquer flights of stairs is the ultimate benefit of participating regularly in Step class.
