Hot Yoga

HOT YOGA PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Hot Yoga is a dynamic, systematic series of poses experienced in a heated environment.  Regular practice helps develop a healthy and fit physical and spiritual body. Hot Yoga can improve your metabolism and flexibility, detoxify your body, and strengthen your muscles and joints. Practicing Hot Yoga can also help reduce stress and improve your well being by releasing serotonin, also known as the “mood” hormone.

Yoga has been practiced for thousands of years. Ancient eastern theory regarding the effects of Yoga on the mind and body are now substantiated by the modern-day health and wellness community. As an activity, Yoga is now so “hot”, that the current day benefits are commonly acknowledged by the westernized general public and medical professionals alike.

HOW WILL HOT YOGA BENEFIT YOU

Hot Yoga is an effective exercise routine that can be practiced by healthy, able-bodied individuals over the age of 18. Here’s how it can benefit you:

  • The hot environment allows tense, tight muscles and connective tissue to become more supple, enabling increased flexibility and improved range of motion over time
  • A likely increase in your body’s ability to strengthen core muscles
  • Emphasis on deep, controlled breathing allows for greater oxygenation of your blood, tissues, glands and organs, ultimately providing a better workout
  • Heat and humidity improves the immune system and rejuvenates the skin
  • Perspiration helps you cleanse from the inside-out by allowing the toxins to be drawn to the surface of the body and removed as sweat
  • Possible improvement in common ailments such as back and/or joint pain
  • During class you’re encouraged to calm the mind, allowing you to decrease your stress levels

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT IN THE HOT YOGA CLASS

Our certified instructors at Extreme Fitness will guide you through appropriate techniques including proper alignment and breathing during your Hot Yoga experience. Over time, you’ll learn not only what the positions or postures are, but also why they are being done, and to what benefit.

Classes generally run between 60 and 90 minutes. The room is heated to between 85 and 105 degrees so be prepared to sweat considerably.

TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL HOT YOGA EXPERIENCE

  • Arrive at class well hydrated and bring water to re-hydrate. Avoid caffeine prior to class
  • We recommend that you bring your own Yoga mat, however a limited number are available for use at some locations
  • Also bring a personal towel (towels are available at the club, however, you may need an additional one to place on your mat as you sweat)
  • Refrain from wearing any fragrances
  • Eat about two hours prior to class to avoid practicing on a full stomach
  • Wear light clothing that you feel comfortable in, being mindful that items should appropriately cover the body, especially when you are in an inverted position
  • Always check with your health practitioner before embarking on a program of Hot Yoga or any new exercise program. Those with health conditions such as Asthma, High/Low Blood Pressure or Diabetes as well as pregnant women, should avoid participating in Hot Yoga classes
