Spinning

SPINNING PROGRAM SUMMARY
Spinning, or Indoor Cycling group fitness classes at Extreme Fitness are held at all 13 locations. Spinning is one of the most popular indoor exercises in Toronto. It combines muscular endurance, cardiovascular conditioning and strength training all in one workout. Spinning is low-impact, since biking minimizes pressure off of your feet and knees, and a single class can help you burn several hundred calories. Indoor Cycling fitness classes are conducted under the supervision of our highly-trained Group Fitness Instructors who coach you through varying terrain, to get you successfully to the end of the ride.

HOW SPINNING WILL BENEFIT YOU
The benefits of Spinning are many and will help you achieve your fitness goals safely and effectively by:

  • challenging your cardio-vascular health. Spinning involves ongoing changes between intensity, resistance, speed and power. All of this activity works to increase and decrease your heart rate as your pedal. This exercise helps to improve heart function and decrease blood pressure as well. By alternating between low and high intensities while cycling for 30 to 40 minutes, over time you will get a significant cardiovascular workout that will gradually enhance your long-term fitness abilities resulting in improved overall general health.

  • improving your core and tone. It’s readily apparent that cycling will improve the tone in the upper and lower legs. Hamstrings (back of the thigh) and quadriceps (front of the thigh) along with calves are the prime movers during a cycling class. Working these muscles will improve their tone and conditioning. However, for those concerned that spinning will make their legs too big, they need not worry. Exercising on bikes in a gym setting (or even riding a street bike) will not likely result in massive thighs or calves. That should only be a concern should you seriously consider training for the Tour de France. But regular attendance in Cycling class will positively affect abdominals, back and shoulders as they stabilize and support the upper body while riding.

  • increasing your stamina and endurance. In addition to sturdy legs and a supportive core, intense cardio exercise while on a bike requires a strong heart. And during intense training intervals on an indoor bike, you’ll have many opportunities to test out your heart health. One of the benefits of a Group Cycling class is the opportunity to work at your own pace, in order to successfully achieve your individual goals. You determine the riding resistance in keeping with the instructor’s suggestions. This gives you the power to ease off as needed, or, go for broke when you’re feeling super energized.

  • losing weight and burning fat. Riding a bike at any speed for any substantial period of time will assist you with burning calories.
