Yoga at Extreme Fitness

Extreme Fitness offers more than 140 Yoga classes per week across our 13 locations. So no matter what your body type or fitness level, there is a Yoga class for you at Extreme.

Our Yoga Basics and SmartStart Yoga classes are geared to the new participant, focussing on a step-by-step explanation of alignment, technique and breathing as you work through the postures. Yoga Basics and SmartStart Yoga is available at Bloor, Cedarbrae, Danforth, Delisle, Dundas, Dunfield, North York, and Richmond, Thornhill and Wellington. Instructors such as Robert and Bella not only instruct, but educate and explain the “why” and “what” of the movements. Also great for beginners is Hatha Yoga at Thornhill with Paula.

Those with a little more experience under their belts will want to attend one of our many more challenging Yoga classes:

The newest addition to our Yoga program is Kundalini Yoga, launching recently launched at Bloor/Yorkville and Cedarbrae in September 2009. Kundalini Yoga is a dynamic system combining breathing, movement, stretching meditation, the use of sound and rhythm, relaxation and meditation. Each class usually entails spine and flexibility warm-ups, a specific sequence for the energy or day at hand, and a relaxation and meditation. There are literally thousands of exercise sets and meditations in this system. According to some sources, awakening of Kundalini brings with it pure joy, pure knowledge and pure love. Who doesn’t want more of this in life?

If you’re looking for a very different Yoga experience, why not try a “fusion” class? Cycle Fusion with Paul at Pickering is a 45-minute cycling class, preceded by 45 minutes of Yoga. For a different flavour of fusion, there’s Rebecca’s class at Delisle that blends Ashtanga Yoga with traditional stretching and Pilates?

For the late-night enthusiast, we have a 90-minute an Advanced Ashtanga class at North York with Paula from 8:30-9:30 10:00 p.m. This challenge-filled class is for the experienced practitioner who likes an athletic and intense Yoga session.

If late night is not your preferred time to work out, you can still get a challenge at a more palatable time from Power Yoga Challenge. This class is for the serious Yoga enthusiast – it is challenging and requires strength and flexibility. Veteran instructors will work with participants who want to improve their abilities. If you want to be pushed, this is the class! Power Yoga Challenge is available from a variety of instructors including Yoga veteran Lori K. at Boor/Yorkville, Cedarbrae, Danforth, Delisle, Yonge and Dundas, Dunfield, Pickering, Richmond, Thornhill, Wellington and Whitby.

Some like it hot…especially during Yoga class. Extreme Fitness is proud to offer Hot Yoga at many of our locations including Bloor/Yorkville, Cedarbrae, Delisle, Yonge & Dundas, Dunfield, Interchange, Richmond, and Wellington. Watch for it coming soon to Thornhill. Hot Yoga takes place in a heated room which allows for deeper, safer stretches in warmed muscles and also allows for detoxification to occur through sweat. Classes typically run from 60-90 minutes. Please note that not all Hot Yoga classes are the same in that they vary from instructor to instructor, in the postures and even in the degree of temperature in the room.
